He is often seen as a symbol of rebirth and regeneration, as his green, leafy self reminds us of the cycles of life. He is found throughout Europe, especially in the British Isles, and was a common motif used in carvings in churches and other buildings. Modern Pagans, Druids, Wiccans, and Witches, especially those who follow a European path, have a special affinity for the pagan greenman, for he is the natural consort to Earth Goddesses.
